Subject: stumble off idle

To whomever stated the EGR valve and solenoid would cure the off-idle stumble....my profuse THANKS!! I replaced both items, the EGR being the one for the low back pressure systems and I no longer have the stumble when the throttle is just cracked off idle.

Now for some tips to help pay back to the digest all I have learned!!

The nuts holding the EGR valve are 13mm. At first I thought they were 7/16 but then I started to round off the driver side nut so I bought a 6-point 13mm combo wrench. Those 6 points did the trick and the nut immediately came loose. Note that the gasket will come off in one piece....mostly. There is some residue left so you need to clean off the surface before putting in

the new gasket. A mirror is pretty much imperative for this. I also plugged both of the holes, not wanting to put any refuse into those ports.

Next, to remove the solenoid you need a 14mm (9/16) socket, but be careful. The 14mm nut is on the intake manifold bolt and when I tried to loosen the nut, the bolt started to unscrew AND the solenoid turned WITH the nut. I had  to jam a large screwdriver down against the solenoid bracket to keep it from turning and to break it loose from the nut. Once I had the solenoid out, then I retightened the rear intake manifold bolt!!

For those of you with the injector cover kit, the job is somewhat more difficult what with the wiring harness being mostly on top of the EGRvalve. If I were going to do it again, I would take off the fuel lines, move the harness up and out of the way, and then proceed to get the work done. That probably would have saved me considerable time. Now for those of you wanting part numbers, here they are from Dal: EGR Valve 17113381 $38.68  Solenoid 1997223 $12.47 Hope all this helps.

As a point of information with a Cat-Back exhaust system - the EGR valve for the LT1 Camaro is recommended.

The Part # is 17113381.
