Okay so a lamp goes out - and the fuse is good. The bulb checks out okay? Well here is a sneaky trick our cars like to play on unsuspecting Tri-9 fans. Fortunately it did not take long before someone cracked the code and posted:

Ray : Your problem is the " Turn / Hazard Switch

Assembly" in the steering wheel. It's a wonder

you didn't see and smell the smoke as it comes

out of the wheel. Usually you see it while hold -

ing your foot on the brake a long time. As in a

traffic jam or construction zone stop.

switch part # 1995974

When using the brakes allot, sometimes

the area around the Hazard switch gets hot.

Hope this sheds some light,

I've been wanting to do this since I got the car. The first time I drove it

at night I realized how bad (dim) the headlights were. I upgraded to

brighter bulbs and it helped a little. I was too cheap to spend the $70+ at

the superstore so I was going to try to make my own. While standing at the

electrical parts section of Kragen, another guy came along and I mentioned

what I was doing. He was doing something similar to his import and he told

me about www.suvlights.com. Heavy duty harness (for our cars) ....$35! I

ordered it that evening and I got it yesterday. I looks like good quality

and I will install it tomorrow.

Check it out.

Subject: Headlight harness

Bob,

Hey all T-84 owners. I want to get the T-84's and run the 80/100 bulbs

in them. Where do I need to look to get a wiring harness to use these high

power bulbs? Is it better to make one myself?

Definitely not worth it to make your own.

The BEST harness I've seen for the job is the Painless Wiring

<http://www.painlesswiring.com/relays.htm> (800-423-9696) #30815 harness.

This harness uses all Packard Electric (GM OEM) connectors, including

weather tight sealed connectors for the relays and 30-amp Packard fuse

holder. The wiring is OEM specified high temperature TXL (thermal cross

linked) wire. TXL insulated wire will not kink, is highly abrasion

resistant, thin-walled for any given gauge, and is designed for a

275-degree F rating. This is exactly the same Packard wire used by GM for

under the hood applications, and not just any old bell wire from radio

shack.

The relays are absolutely KILLER 40-amp Bosch waterproof relays complete

with metal tabs for mounting. These alone are worth the price of the

harness. Note that if you don't use waterproof relays with weathertight

sealed connectors in the front of the vehicle, corrosion will eventually

cause all kinds of problems. These will not suffer that fate, they are a

true OEM quality factory type setup.

The headlight connectors included are high quality Packard H4 type,

meaning

this harness is ideal for H4 (T84 conversions). This harness is available

under Painless Wiring #30815, but you can get it cheapest from Summit or

Jegs. I paid $55.99 for it through Jegs (800-345-4545), and for that price

it is a BARGAIN considering the quality of the relays, connectors and wire

used! A harness like this will get full battery voltage to your bulbs,

making them brighter and protecting the headlight switch in the process.

Scott.
